All We Want by J. Daniels6/7/2023 Tessa and Luke just want a child to add to their family, but it’s been a year and still nothing. Daniels continues these stories, so we can see how things continue for all of our beloved characters. They didn’t have the easiest start, but it’s clear they love each other. Tessa and Luke were a lot of fun to read about in All I Want and when we saw them in the other books. When all they want is something they might never have, will their love for each other be enough? They’re crazy in love and in this forever, and now, they’re anxiously awaiting the next step.īut when month after month ticks by with nothing but disappointing news, and the stress gets too much to take, their relationship will be tested in ways it’s never been tested before. The New York Times bestselling Alabama Summer series continues in this sixth installment. Who knows, maybe I will do a reread soon to change that.Īll We Want takes us back to Tessa and Luke. I actually read this series before starting the blog, so I haven’t reviewed any of them on here. Daniels surprised all of her Alabama Summer fans with the novella, All We Want.

Todd's Well and the neighbouring farmland are a hotspot for seeing roe deer in the Seven Lochs. It's a short walk around the woodland, and although some paths are quite steep there are great views north over Cardowan Moss to the Campsie Fells, and east to Bishop Loch and beyond. Just a few minutes' walk from Provan Hall gateway, Todd's Well woodland may be small, but the mix of trees and hedgerows make it a great place for nature. The remaining buildings are now being converted into housing as part of a major new development. Built in 1892-96 as the 'City of Glasgow District Asylum for pauper lunatics' the hospital was in use until the 1980s. The towers of Gartloch Hospital are a central feature of the Seven Lochs. An archaeology dig in 2008 found remains of a moat and wall, as well as medieval coins and pottery. The country residence of the Bishop of Glasgow stood on the edge of Bishop Loch from the 14th Century until it was destroyed in 1579. The towers of Gartloch Hospital are a central feature of. The woodland nature reserve at Bishop Loch is great for woodpeckers, water vole and roe deer. An archaeology dig in 2008 found remains of a moat and wall, as well as medieval coins and pottery. Bishop Loch is one of two 'Sites of Special Scientific interest' in the Seven Lochs., and a number of very rare birds have been spotted here, including marsh harrier, osprey and bittern.

"About this title" may belong to another edition of this title. (May)Ĭopyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. Overall, however, this is a fine primer that makes a compelling case for Shinto as a religion invested with deep meaning. At times, Yamakage's voice can be overly strident, as when challenging the faith and motivations of some contemporary Shinto priests. The book is nicely designed, with an excellent layout and black-and-white photos throughout. Still, Shintoists are united by a reverence for nature and an emphasis on self-purification, particularly through water rituals and cleansing. Buy Essence Of Shinto, The: Japans Spiritual Heart by Motohisa Yamakage from Waterstones today Click and Collect from your local Waterstones or get FREE. He offers a strong introduction to Shinto, stressing that it is nondogmatic, nondoctrinal and almost wholly decentralized. Yamakage calls for a return to koshinto, the ancient Shinto practice that he says had no shrines at all, and for a rejection of the "secular, materialistic, atheistic society" that he believes modern Japan has become. Not so, claims Yamakage, who represents "the 79th generation of an ancient Shinto tradition" and makes a case for living Shinto as a faith-based religion that is predicated on "the belief in the presence of the kami," or spirits. Western visitors to Japan sometimes come away with the idea that Shinto, Japan's indigenous religion, is a "dead" tradition, with shrines preserved as mere historic sites or tourist traps.

Bold as Love by Gwyneth Jones6/6/2023 I generally enjoyed it, which is a relief because I bounced off a couple of other books by Gwyneth Jones that I tried in the meantime. I read the first part of this when it first came out in Interzone, way back in the day, and thought I had read the rest since, but this was mostly new to me. More magical than the classic Divine Endurance, more exciting and moving than the award-winning White Queen: Bold As Love is a shamelessly romantic fantasy about England that asks what would happen to the rock nobility if all those protest songs and idealist opinions were put to the test. Bold As Love is an evocative Arthurian fantasy in which cultural icons (rock and roll stars) are cast as man of destiny, peerless warrior companion at his side, with a band of faithful companions, a princess in jeopardy, battle scenes, fancy dress, Celtic mythology, true romance, a wicked magician, the Holy Grail. But this story isn't actually set in 1968, it's an alternate Now, and Fiorinda is no hapless sixties rock chick, but a formidable power in her own right: a child of our times and a timeless heroine. And imagine they were both in love with the same girl, and this gorgeous babe they both adored turned out to be. And came out on the other side ruling England. Imagine John Lennon met Mick Jagger around 1968, really hit it off, went through the collapse of modern civilisation together, and changed from rockstars into genuine heroes.

Star wars alphabet squadron books6/6/2023 I really enjoyed this book and love meeting new Star Wars characters. No heroes, just the mission, and all those who live on for the next one. … a lesson maybe some fans could learn from…Īlphabet Squadron doesn’t have a lot of “fun” moments but really fits MUCH more in line with the Rogue One and Battlefront mentality. I think being the first books NOT dealing with the Big Three they probably were able to take more chances and not take things so seriously. Looking back on the Legends stories now, the X-Wing books had a lot of fun with their stories. In my opinion, Alphabet Squadron sits up there in quality among those stories but also separates itself in tone and stylistically. When Alphabet Squadron was announced, I was happy for a “space battle” type book in canon but also VERY aware of the high bar set by those legends books. In the Legends days, the Rogue Squadron and Wraith Squadron books were definitely VERY HIGH on my personal favorite lists. In fact, even if you hadn’t read either of those books I think you can kind of take the tone of Rogue One and understand the tone of his writing in these books.Īlso, I’m a fan of Michael Stackpole and Aaron Allston. “You know your squadron will fight, but will they fight for you?” – Hera SyndullaĪs a fan of Star Wars Battlefront: Twilight Company and the novelization of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story I kinda already knew that but here we are.

He is smart, he watches ahead of the present, he has his own unique “code of honor” (for lacking of a better term), and… …you can be sure that it’ll be awesome and shocking the storyline. …Negan (in my personal opinion) remains as not only the most complex villain but also the most interesting character since you never know what he’d do next but… He’s not only the most complex villain (and certainly The Governor was way cool) so far, not matter that the series would meet yet another formidable villain in future chapters, but… Negan is my favorite character in The Walking Dead (comic books and TV adaptation), obviously I had read the comic books and watch the TV series since their own beginnings and I like several character on each version, but once Negan appears… This is a special publication of “The Walking Dead”, not part of the regular run, therefore, it’s only avalaible (at this moment) in this very hardcover publication.Īdditional gray tones to inking: Cliff Rathburn Beware alive ones, here comes Negan & Lucille!

A modern fairy tale holly black6/5/2023 Some of my favorites are Fairy and Folk Tales of the Irish Peasantry edited by William Butler Yeats, The Secret Commonwealth of Elves, Fauns, and Fairies by Robert Kirk, and The Fairy-Faith in Celtic Countries by W. Of particular use are the Child Ballads.įor primary sources and good secondary sources, there are a lot of great books downloadable from the Internet Sacred Text Archive. Tam Lin is there, along with many other fairy ballads. Ashliman’s page of changeling legends from the British islesĪlso really useful is this Traditional Ballad Index. And, as with all research, if you look at the primary sources noted in the backs of those books, you will find more material.įor a general outline of faerie society and a good starting place, Mika Loponen wrote an interesting paper that includes a discussion on the various names for faeries, general types of faeries, faerie gentry, and faerie mortality.Īnother good place to start would be D.L. I get asked a lot for information on faerie folklore, so here are some places to start. |
